County Hires Fyfe For Interim Position
By Bill Vander Weele
The Roosevelt County Commissioners unanimously approved the hiring of Erika Fyfe as a temporary employee in the clerk of court’s office during a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
The position will run through Dec. 31 when a new clerk of court/ superintendent of schools takes over duties. Fyfe is the only candidate on the ballot for the positions. Laurie Evans is the interim clerk of court/county superintendent of schools. The positions became open when Jeri Toavs resigned in July.
Also hired during the meeting was Joshua Miller for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office. Caleb Pendelton is moving from a position with the jail to serving as a deputy. Joshua Staggenborg has been hired to be a jailer.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak discussed an error in the new proposed agreement between the county and city regarding the justice of the peace and city court. The agreement read, “The city shall compensate the county for those services performed by paying the county $17,047.59 per year and $1,420.63 per month.”
Dschaak said that the word “and” should instead be “or.”
Commissioners and city officials will hold a meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to discuss the agreement.
On topic during the meeting was the county paying for law enforcement employees to attend the law enforcement academy and then some individuals leaving the county job. Commissioner Robert Toavs suggested that those employees should need to pay some of those funds back to the county. Sheriff Jason Frederick said such an agreement would need to be made with the union.
