The Lustre Lions will rely on some new faces on their high school volleyball team to have a good season this year.

The Lions do have four starters back including senior Abby Olfert, senior Jaden Gibson, junior Hannah Brown and sophomore Lauryn Holzrichter.

Other seniors on the team are Rachel Pew and Katie Calderone.

Coach Mary Zerbe is excited to have seven freshmen on the squad.

“We have a lot of new, younger blood,” Zerbe said. “We have a nice freshman class.”

The group of freshmen includes Lauren Fast, Ashythn Traeholt, Justice Byers, Natalie Fast, Sheila Jones, Kencia Brown and Holly Hilkemann.

“They all played junior high volleyball, so they are growing,” Zerbe said. “It’s a new year with a lot of opportunity.”

The Lions will open their season at the Culbertson Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 31.

“Our goal is to be a better team at the end of the season than the start,” Zerbe said. “We will do our best, and God will do the rest.”
