Ruff Serves As Frazer’s New Superintendent
Educator Dr. Sarah Ruff has started duties as the new superintendent for the Frazer School District.
Ruff said she was approached to serve in the capacity in Frazer and is excited to work with the community.
“I said ‘yes’ because it’s important to me that schools have strong leaders to do what’s needed for the students,” Ruff said.
Although she is continuing with other educational responsibilities, she stresses that her role in Frazer is working at a full-time basis. She will be at the school five days a week.
“When I’m here, I’m 110 percent here,” Ruff said. Her other work includes serving as a national consultant in leadership development for principals, superintendents and boards to build leadership skills, and teaching online at Baylor University. “I never sleep,” she laughed.
Her contract with Frazer is on a month-to-month basis.
“I’m impressed with the school. It’s a small school with a big community focus,” Ruff said. “I’m excited to work with and help the community reach its goals with students.”
The school’s focus this year is on “Culture, Community and Clarity.”
“We want to ensure that the community feels welcomed coming into the building and having a community partnership with the school,” Ruff said.
She notes the Bear’s Den will be open for elders to enjoy a cup of coffee each day. Students and staff will hold a community circle for 15 minutes each day to celebrate the community. Plans are for an elders’ lunch on Wednesdays so elders can eat with students. On some days, students will deliver lunch to elders’ residences.
As far as staff challenges, Frazer currently needs to double up some grade levels. All the high school core classes have teachers, but some elective positions are needed.
