Lustre Volleyball Squad Wins Match At Tournament
The Lustre Lions opened their volleyball season at a tournament in Culbertson on Saturday, Aug. 31.
After taking third place in their pool, a highlight for the Lions was defeating Nashua by a 25-11, 25-19 final.
A kill by Hannah Brown and the net play of Jaden Gibson led the Lions to an 18-6 lead in the first set. Lustre was able to increase its lead to 21-8 on a block by Gibson and an ace by Lauryn Holzrichter.
Ahead by a 23-11 margin, the Lions ended the first game on a kill by Sidney Klatt and an ace by Rachel Pew.
The second set was a battle, but a kill by Gibson put Lustre ahead by an 18-17 score. Abby Olfert served an ace for a 21-17 advantage.
With the score at 24-19, the Lions ended the match on a serve by Gibson.
The Lions lost to Scobey in the semi-final round by a 4-25, 15-25, final.
During pool play, Lustre fell short against Culbertson and Scobey.
