Poplar Runners Enjoy Success At Wolf Point Invitational
The Poplar Indians opened their cross country season in fine fashion as the girls took first and the boys placed second in the team standings during the Wolf Point Invitational held on Friday, Aug. 30.
The Indians earned top honors in the girls’ division with 21 points. Scobey placed second with 49 and Brockton was third with 61 points.
Poplar’s Journey Gourneau, a freshman, was the top runner in the girls’ division with a time of 20:56.4.
Two other Poplar girls also placed in the top five. Mattie Falls Down, a senior, finished fourth at 22:54.11. Cammie Martell, a junior, placed fifth at 23:15.5.
Poplar’s Kellyn Azure, a freshman, took eighth place at 24:17.3. Amelia Weeks, a sophomore, placed ninth at 24:37.5.
Alara Cooper was 19th at 26:53.2. Kali Colgan placed 30th at 29:01.04. Harley Daniels took 40th at 33:13.8.
Harlem won the team title in the boys’ division with 31 points. Poplar earned second with 49 points.
Harlem’s Ethan Walker was the boys’ winner with a tie of 17:06.8.
Eljin Grey Bear led Poplar with a time of 18:56.7 for fourth place.
Jayden Eder took ninth place at 19:40.5. Wilder Bearcub was right behind in 10th place at 19:42.2.
Raylando Red Eagle finished in 22nd place with a time of 21:27.0. Stephen Smoker was 24th at 21:32.1.
Navarjo Escarcega took 26th at 21:36.5.
Bostyn Azure had a time of 22:10.2 for 33rd place. Dustin Smith was 65th at 34:54.8.
The Indians will host the Poplar Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7.
