Man Faces Felony Assault Charges
Tyler Shane Granley is facing two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges in district court. The felony charges are assault with a weapon and assault on a peace officer/judicial officer.
The charges were filed on Aug. 28. Bond was set at $100,000.
The misdemeanor charges include partner or family member assault, second offense, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
According to court documents, the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a brother-on-brother assault in Bainville. His brother, Aaron, said he saw the defendant driving Aaron’s gray passenger car erratically around the farm field. The defendant then allegedly confronted Aaron and threatened to kill him and other family members.
Aaron told law enforcement that the defendant escalated and started chasing him with the car. Aaron said that Tyler was intoxicated and struck his ATV multiple times.
With the help of family members, a deputy located the defendant outside an old trailer house. The defendant eventually came out of the trailer and walked to within 50 feet of the deputy where a panel gate remained between them. After the defendant made several angry statements about family members, he turned away from the deputy, who then stepped inside the panel gate.
When the deputy asked the defendant to place his hands behind him multiple times, the defendant refused and instead grabbed his beer can and drank from it twice. Rather than following the commands, the defendant put his hands in front and him and tried to get up off the ground. The deputy then deployed his taser on the defendant.
When the deputy started to pat the defendant down for weapons and then attempted to stand the defendant up, the defendant got angry and started yelling and rolling onto his back. The defendant then kicked the deputy in the groin, causing immediate and severe pain. The deputy rolled him back over onto his stomach and laid on top of him to try to get the defendant to calm down.
In the patrol car, the defendant continued to shout, scream and behave violently during the entire trip to Wolf Point. The defendant kicked the partition and spit all over the back of the vehicle. He managed to slip his handcuffs to the front of his body and pounded on the partition. When in a holding cell in Wolf Point, the defendant continued to behave belligerently until it was decided for his safety to place him in the padded cell.
