Bulldogs Score Big Win Over Savage, 46-25
The Bainville Bulldogs made a statement in the sixman football ranks on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Bulldogs traveled to Savage and defeated the previously undefeated Warriors by a 46-25 margin.
“It was a great team victory,” Bainville Coach Shawn Romo said. “The group played some very good defense and continued to work well with each other on both sides of the ball.”
Bainville, now 4-1 for the season, struck first when Rowan Wilson connected with Trevor Robertus on a 37yard touchdown play. Robertus caught the ball at the Savage 27 and then went the distance with 5:33 left in the opening quarter.
Savage tied the game with a three-yard run with 1:58 left in the period and then went ahead, 13-6, on a 30-yard run with 9:04 remaining in the half.
The Bulldogs changed the game’s momentum on a 65yard pass play from Wilson to Keagan Vaira to pull to 13-12 with 8:50 left in the half.
After Bainville’s defense forced the Warriors to turn over the ball on downs, Wilson hit Parker Berwick on a 15-yard play for a first down at the Savage 26. Wilson then rushed for 13 yards down to the 13.
On third down, Wilson threw to Robertus to put the Bulldogs ahead. Berwick’s kick was good for a 20-13 lead with 4:53 left in the half.
The third quarter was a big one for the Bulldogs as they outscored Savage by a 13-0 margin.
After a short punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at the Savage 37, Wilson rolled out and hit Isaiah Bjorge for a touchdown for a 26-13 advantage.
On Bainville’s next possession, Robertus took a short pass and went the distance for a 48-yard touchdown play with a minute left in the third quarter.
Wilson completed passes to Bjorge and Robertus to put the Bulldogs back into scoring position again. A 10-yard pass from Wilston to Berwick for the margin at 40-13 with 8:06 left.
After the Warriors scored on a three-yard run, Wilson connected with Berwick for a nine-yard touchdown pass for a 46-19 advantage.
Savage scored on a 62-yard pass play with 22 seconds left for the 46-25 final.
Defensive leaders for the Bulldogs included Wilson with 12 tackles, Robertus with nine tackles and Isaiah Bjorge with eight tackles.
The Bainvlle Bulldogs will head to Plevna on Saturday, Oct. 5.
