Purvis Honored By Legion

Thomas Mann Post 81 had its first scheduled meeting for the fall season on Sept. 12. The first matter was to have a fine luncheon of shredded chicken sandwiches and two salads, in hopes of getting more of the nearly 80 members to attend the meetings, The pledge was lead by the new Commander Christopher Petersen. He began by presenting an award of appreciation to the retiring of former Commander Peggy Purvis, who is moving to Mississippi to join other family members. The commander had another award for Henry Colvin, the Boys State candidate.

This was followed by a lengthy conversation concerning the restoring of the Legion Park located southeast of Culbertson. This park is in need of a lot of work, trimming brush and mowing grass/weeds. The commander is requesting a person to chair a committee to handle the organization of that project.

There was financial conversation on funding for the next year to keep the utilities paid.

The annual Turkey Bingo is scheduled at the Legion Hall for Nov. 17. The public is invited. The patriotic posting of the American flags on local businesses during national holidays was discussed. The next meeting will be Oct. 10, followed by flag postings Oct. 14.
