Wolf Point Plays Tough Defense, Loses To Cut Bank
Wolf Point’s standout defensive effort kept the hometown Wolves close in the first half, but Cut Bank went on to earn a 26-0 victory on Friday, Sept. 27.
After a short kick started the conference contest, Cut Bank drove as far as the Wolf Point 25. Facing a fourth-andtwo, Cut Bank’s threat ended when Da’Shaun Jackson made a tackle for a loss.
Wolf Point’s defense remained tough throughout the quarter, but Cut Bank created a turnover when Alex Wahl intercepted a pass and returned the ball to the Wolf Point 25.
A pass from Dallas Berkram to Kellan Cassidy picked up a first down for Cut Bank at the 12. Three plays later, Berkram scored on a three-yard quarterback keeper run with 11:02 left in the half.
Wolf Point responded as the running of Jesse Reed, Kasey Reed and Michael Bell moved the ball to midfield. J. Reed then broke loose on a 32-yard dash to the Cut Bank 21. After two more running plays, the threat ended when Wahl intercepted a pass at the 11 and returned the ball to the Wolf Point 31.
Thanks to nice defensive coverage by Jayden Dominique, Cut Bank couldn’t score on that possession.
Cut Bank, however, scored on its final possession of the second half when Berkram connected with Jaydas Running Wolf on a 20-yard pass play with only 41 seconds left in the half for a 14-0 margin.
Wolf Point opened the third quarter on a strong note was the hard running of J. Reed and Bell marched the ball into Cut Bank territory. The Wolves got as far as the 40 before losing the ball on downs.
A big offensive play for Cut Bank occurred when Wahl grabbed the ball off a bad snap and raced 37 yards to the Wolf Point 20. Cut Bank went on to score on a one-yard pass from Berkram to Wahl with 2:21 left in the third quarter.
Cut Bank’s final touchdown was set up when Berkram went 14 yards on a fake punt for a first down at the Wolf Point 29. After a pass completion to Running Wolf, Cut Bank scored on a two-yard run by Berkram for a 26-0 lead with 19 seconds left in the third quarter.
Wolf Point drove into Cut Bank territory again in the game’s final minutes but couldn’t get into the end zone.
Top rushers for Wolf Point were J. Reed with 63 yards and K. Reed with 62 yards.
Cut Bank’s Wahl finished with 128 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Wolf Point will play at Roundup on Friday, Oct. 4.
