The New Covenant Quartet will present a special concert at the MB Church on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m.

There will be an Open House “Meet-n-Greet” with Timothy and Annika Lenihan Nov. 9 between 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lustre MB parsonage.

Pastor Frank officiated at his son’s wedding, held in Red Lodge on Oct. 12.

Students enjoyed a break for MEA weekend. The next jamboree basketball games are Friday, Oct. 25, with Frontier at Lustre beginning at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 26, Lustre at Opheim, beginning at 10 a.m.

The LCHS volleyball team has district tournament on Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Plentywood.

Funeral services for Ruth (Reichert) Jones will be on Nov. 9, at the Community Bible Church in Omaha, Neb.. Ruth Adeline Richert was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Richey, to Jacob B. and Sara (Schroeder) Richert. She was the youngest of five children: Ida (half-sister, the late Mrs. Jacob Neufeld of Lustre), Rose, Arnold, and Margaret. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell; and her siblings and step-siblings. She is survived by her children, Susan Brown, Judith Fuller, Russell G. Jones Jr. and Rebecca White; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She attended Grace University and graduated in 1947. She married Russell Jones Aug. 20, 1948. Dr. Russell and Ruth both worked for Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Neb., where he taught Bible 36 years, and she was dean of women. Russ pastored two churches on the weekends while at Grace.

She was 9 when her mother died suddenly. She wrote “Mother left an impact on my life, in those nine short years, by leading me to Christ and teaching me to listen to the Word of God and follow it.” Her favorite scripture verse was Isaiah 26:3. “Thou wilt keep Him in perfect peace whose eyes are stayed upon Thee.”

She is the author of Land of their Own: from Russia to South Dakota, Land of Challenge: Dakota Territory, Land of Her Own: a Montana Homestead, A Rose is a Rose, My Heart to Give and more than 100 non-fiction articles.

These books were sold one year at Schmeckfest when she had a table here to support LCHS. In 1975, they went on a sabbatical year to England, Russ as a visiting lecturer at Moorelands Bible College and Ruth as assistant to the field director of Greater Europe Mission. During their time at Grace, she taught a class on Biblical self-worth at the Douglas County Correctional Facility for many years. After retirement from Grace, they took the pastorate at Immanuel Church in Lincoln, Neb., and then interim pastorates in Iowa and Nebraska. She lived to be 98½ years old and died Sept. 26, 2024.
