New Trustee Needed On School Board

The Wolf Point School Board is looking for a new trustee. Former board vice chair Keith Higgins turned in a written resignation in August because he moved out of District 1.

During the school board meeting on Monday, Oct. 14, the school board officially accepted Higgins’ resignation and declared a vacancy on the board.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins said that the school district has until Dec. 13, to fill the position by law. The position must be advertised for at least 15 days.

Trustee Michael Turcotte suggested the deadline to file should be Nov. 1, so that trustees can select the replacement during the November board meeting. Trustees agreed with the motion.

Individuals living in District 1 can file for the position with the district clerk. District 1 is located in the northwest area of Wolf Point. If more than one person applies for the trustee position, then the board will conduct interviews.

During the meeting, trustees unanimously voted to have Trenton Wemmer as the new vice chair.

The school board isn’t unfamiliar with the process since a search was needed after Cody Larson resigned from the board in June so he could take a teaching position in Wolf Point. One candidate, Michael Holen, stepped forward to take that position in District 4.

The current board consists as Roxanne Gourneau as chair, Wemmer as vice chair, Turcotte, Holen and Sarah Copenhaver.
