Surveys Needed For Community Ag Plan Surveys Needed For Community Ag Plan

The Natural Resources Department on the Fort Peck Reservation is attempting to find out what the community desires in a community agriculture plan.

Meetings were conducted in Wolf Point and Poplar to receive input from residents last week. Programs have also taken place in Brockton and Fort Kipp. A meeting is planned for Oct. 29 in Frazer.

Julianna McNutt, who is performing contract work for the project, said the goal of the meetings have been to get residents to complete a survey regarding the development of a community agriculture plan.

“Just to see what the community wants,” McNutt said.

Deadline for the surveys is Oct. 31. The survey can also be completed online at www.surveymonkey. com/r/communityag.

If you complete the survey, you have a chance to win a $50 gift card.

Questions on the survey include: Are you interested in a tribally supported community garden or starting a home garden? Would you be interested in trainings/classes such as home gardening, small livestock, beekeeping, seed saving or composting? What types of services would you be interested in such as farm equipment, tool sharing, tilling services, farmers market and seeds sharing? What would you like to see done with vacant/abandoned lots in your community?

The community agriculture plan will help the Natural Resources Department acquire funding including grants for projects.

The plan will focus on each of the Fort Peck communities. Goals will be established and different projects for each community will be identified by using the survey results.
