Wolves Lose Conference Game In Conrad, 33-20
In a game that was decided in the fourth quarter, Wolf Point fell at Conrad, 33-20, during conference football action on Friday, Oct. 18.
The visiting Wolves put together a 55-yard scoring drive to gain the lead late in the third quarter. Runs by tailback Jesse Reed and quarterback Kasey Reed led the march into Conrad territory. Facing a fourth-and-one at the 32, K. Reed fought for two yards to the 30.
After K. Reed picked up another first down at the 20, J. Reed broke loose for a 14yard rush to the six. On fourth down from the one, K. Reed got into the end zone with 1:04 left in the third quarter. The junior quarterback also scored the conversion run for a 20-19 advantage.
Conrad responded with a strong running attack for a 59-yard scoring drive. A 10yard dash put the Cowboys ahead 25-20 with 8:50 remaining in the league game.
The Wolves then drove into Conrad territory on the running of the Reed brothers. An interception, however, ended the threat with about five minutes to play and the return put the ball at the Wolf Point 35. The Cowboys went on to score on a seven-yard run. The conversion put Conrad ahead 33-20 with 2:36 remaining.
Wolf Point couldn’t pick up a first down on its next possession.
Conrad enjoyed a strong start in the game as a 62-yard touchdown run put the Cowboys ahead 7-0 with 10:15 left in the first quarter.
After an interception, the Cowboys added to their lead with a 20-yard counter run early in the second quarter to put the margin at 13-0.
Wolf Point’s Jacob White returned the ensuing kickoff 32 yards to provide the Wolves with excellent field position. A run by J. Reed earned a first down at the Conrad 17. Facing fourth and eight at the 16, the Wolves scored on a leaping catch by White in the end zone to cut the margin to 13-6 with 7:38 left in the half.
Conrad responded with a 62-yard drive to grab a 19-6 advantage. The Wolves took momentum back with a 70-yard drive. K. Reed scored on a 26yard run to close the margin to 19-12 at the half.
Conrad drove inside Wolf Point territory to open the third quarter, but strong defensive plays by Mike Bell, Zandon Calder and Sam Boysun ended the threat. The Wolves then put together a 55-yard scoring drive to take the lead.
The Wolf Point Wolves will end their season at Glasgow against the Scotties on Friday, Oct. 25.
