Work Still Being Done For Fertilizer Plant
John Mues of Cyan H2 says he remains optimistic about establishing the Eastern Montana Fertilizer Plant near Culbertson.
Mues said there have been some updates taking place during the past several months regarding the project.
He noted that the project basically boils down to if Cyan H2 can reach a purchasing agreement to purchase fertilizer from an unknown company. “It’s been a long negotiation,” Muse said. He feels if the purchasing agreement is finalized, private and public funding will be received for the $1.6 billion project.
Muse explained a verbal commitment was made and then Cyan H2 received a written framework from the company. “We’ve been negotiating back and forth for several months,” Muse said. “Until we get that in place, we just have to wait.”
If an agreement can’t be reached, Muse said it’s not impossible to work with a different company but political help would be needed for that to be successful.
When the companies reach a purchasing agreement, the next step will be a financial investment decision or FID. The phase would take about 4-5 months.
Cyan H2 currently has its 442acre site under legal control. Early estimates are that the project will create 3,200 jobs including 2,000 during the construction phase, 200 permanent jobs and 1,000 of in-direct jobs created through economic opportunities.
