Poplar Athletes Run To Honors At State Cross Country Meet
Poplar’s girls placed 11th in the team standings at the Class B state cross country meet held in Missoula on Saturday, Oct. 26. Poplar’s Journey Gourneau, an eighth-grader, finished in 33rd place with a time of 21:35.6.
Mattie Falls Down, a senior, placed 44th at 22:05.6. Amelia Weeks earned 55th place at 22:39.6.
Kellyn Azure ran the course in 23:13.1 for 74th place. Cammie Martell took 85th place at 23:40.6.
Alara Cooper was 102nd with a time of 24:15.8. Kelbee Redstone was 158th at 26:48.8.
Poplar’s girls placed 11th in the team standings with 232 points.
Manhattan won the girls’ team title with 105 points. Big Timber placed second with 152 points and Jefferson took third with 201 points. Glasgow was sixth with 243 points.
Marina Tulloch of Plains was the individual champion with a time of 18:33. Townsend’s Kyla Meissner finished second at 19:23.2 and Manhattan’s Ruthanne Bowen was third at 19:27.2.
Poplar’s boys took 11th in the team standings with 311 points.
Manhattan also was the team winner in the boys’ division with 86 points followed by Florence-Carlton with 160 and Plains with 171.
The top five runners were Cass Violett of Three Forks at 15:54.0, Kyler Harris of Florence/ Carlton at 16:11.9, Auston Schellig of Joliet at 16:12.0, Harlem’s Ethan Walker at 16:14.0 and Jefferson’s Dominic Hurlbert at 16:21.1.
Poplar’s Issac Izizarry finished in 39th place with a time of 18.02.1.
Wilder Bearcub placed 44th at 18:16.5. Eljin Grey Bear earned 56th at 18:34.6.
Ryder Olson placed 76th at 19:10.2. Jayden Eder was 96th at 19:38.1.
Navarjo Escarcega took 105th at 19:53.0. Raylando Red Eagle was 145th at 20:37.0.
