Poplar Girls Fall Short In Home Volleyball Match Against Scobey
Poplar’s volleyball team put up a good battle but lost at home against Scobey by an 18-25, 19-25, 22-25, final on Thursday, Oct. 24.
After falling behind by an 11-5 margin in the first set, the Indians stormed back to 11-8 on two kills by Braelyn Nordwick and a block by Lilliana O’Neal.
Aces by Nordwick pulled Poplar to 14-12, but Scobey grabbed an 18-13 lead on the net play of Camrie Holum. Two aces by Kennadi Cromwell increased the margin to 22-14.
After kills by Miley Crawford and Nordwick cut the gap to 22-16, the Spartans went on to a 25-18 victory.
The powerful net play of Holum, Emery Rouse and Mady Willis led Scobey to a 16-7 advantage in the second set. A block by 6-0 Kaytie Aanstad, an ace by Rouse and a kill by Willis increased the margin to 19-7.
Down by a 21-8 score, the Indians fought back on a tip by Rebecca Gorder, two kills by Nordwick and a serve by Angelina Escarcega to pull to 21-12.
After a kill by Holum gave Scobey a 24-14 lead, Poplar ran off five straight points including a tip and ace by Nordwick. The Spartans ended the set on a kill by Holum.
Scobey jumped out to a 2112 lead in the third set, but Poplar responded on serves by Quintana Young along with kills by Nordwick and Crawford. The Indians kept rolling and moved ahead 2221 on a kill by Nordwick.
After a tip by Scobey’s Rouse ended Poplar’s streak, the Spartans accounted for the final three points on a kill by Willis, an ace by Holum and a kill by Rouse.
