Mays Enjoys Competing
Wolf Point High School senior Rebel Mays has been running to success this fall.
Mays has been the standout athlete for the Wolves during the cross country campaign.
“I like running with friends,” Mays said of why he enjoys the sport.
Although the Wolves have an admirable history in cross country, Mays simply wants to perform the best that he can while competing.
“I just inspire to do better when things happen,” Mays explained.
He said last week that his fastest time of the season was 17:30. That was quite an improvement from the 19:30 time in the early part of the season. His best time last year was about 18 minutes.
Mays has liked that his sister, Lakealah, is part of Wolf Point’s cross country program as a sophomore.
“It’s pretty fun,” Rebel said. “We share rides to and from practice.”
When possible, they do attempt to cheer each other on during meets. “But usually I’m tired after my race or she’s tired after her race,” Rebel explained.
During basketball season, Rebel plays point guard for the Wolves. He enjoys time on bus trips and in the locker rooms with teammates.
His goal is for the Wolves to qualify for the divisional basketball tournament this upcoming season.
Hobbies include fishing and playing video games.
Mays’ favorite class is cardio.
After high school, Mays hopes to run for a collegiate team. He plans to major in computer science.
