Bainville Downs Cowgirls To Qualify For Divisional
The Bainville Bulldogs qualified for the Eastern C divisional volleyball tournament by beating Culbertson in straight sets on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Bainville posted a 25-16, 25-14, 25-23, victory over the Cowgirls.
The Bulldogs came out firing as four kills by Hailey Berwick and two aces by Chandi Johnson led the way to a 10-1 advantage in the first set.
A kill by Miah Pippenger and an ace by Berwick put the gap at 15-4.
After an ace by Culbertson’s Jazzmin Fugere closed the margin to 15-7, the Bulldogs used kills by Elsie Wilson and Berwick along with an ace by Pippenger to grab an 18-9 lead. Aces by Culbertson’s Leandra Perkins and Ivy Colvin put the score at 22-15, but the Bulldogs went on to end the set on a tip and kill by Pippenger.
An ace by Lila Butikofer and kills by Pippenger lifted the Bulldogs to a 9-3 advantage in the second set. The Cowgirls responded with a kill and ace by Perkins for a 9-6 game.
A block by Emma Berwick kept the Cowgirls close at 129, but Bainville then ran off seven of the next eight points including kills by Johnson, an ace by Pippenger and a kill by Wilson. The Bulldogs increased the gap to 20-12 on a kill by Berwick and a tip by Pippenger.
Ahead by a 20-14 margin, Bainville struck for the final five points of the second set on a tip by Butikofer, three kills by Wilson and an ace by Berwick.
The serving of Mariana Burciaga and plays by Ayden Ator led Culbertson to a 15-10 lead in the third set, but Bainville responded with nine straight points including three aces by Pippenger for a 19-15 advantage.
Kills by Berwick put the Bulldogs up 24-20, but Culbertson kept battling with kills by Burciaga. The Bulldogs won the last point for a 25-23 final.
