Bulldogs Lose Playoff Football Game
Not many things went right for Bainville’s football team as the Bulldogs’ outstanding season came to an end with a 52-0 playoff loss against Highwood on Saturday, Nov. 2.
After Highwood’s defense stopped the Bulldogs on their first possession, the Mountaineers drove 44 yards for the game’s opening touchdown. Zach Johnston, a 215-pound senior, scored from the one with 7:07 left in the period.
Bainville’s next possession included a first down run by quarterback Rowan Wilson to the 31. On the next play, however, Chase Tinklenberg intercepted a pass. On first down, Tinklenberg connected with Braxton Crowder on a 27-yard touchdown pass.
Highwood increased its lead to 24-0 on a 38-yard dash by Ryder Zanto with 4:15 remaining in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs reached midfield on a pass completion from Wilson to Parker Berwick, but a quarterback sack helped end Bainville’s threat.
After gains by Zanto and Johnston produced a first down at the Bulldog 10, Zanto reached the end zone to put the Mountaineers up 30-0 with 1:43 left in the period.
Zanto returned an interception seven yards for a touchdown to increase the margin to 38-0 in the final minute of the first quarter.
With the clock running, the Mountaineers added a touchdown in the second quarter and another in the second half for the 52-0 final.
