County Will Donate Properties To Wolf Point

Roosevelt County commissioners approved a motion of intent to donate two properties to the city of Wolf Point during their weekly meeting Oct. 29.

Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak said the city council approved acquiring the properties at 517 Fourth Avenue South and 245 Eureka Street, which are up for tax deed. Commissioners also approved resolution 2025-8 that directs the county treasurer to issue a tax deed on the properties.

During the meeting, commissioners heard from Montana Department of Revenue officials regarding office hours in the county. Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said that twice a week is needed. He feels that the business hours need to be consistent so the public are aware of the times.

“It will get busier once we have that consistency,” Oelkers said.

Commissioners agree to advertise to receive bids for gravel. Oelkers said up to 26,000 tons might be needed in the north of Wolf Point area.

The county received a check of $56,000 after a Peterbilt was totaled during the summer. Commissioners agreed to sell the Peterbilt as is as totaled truck and use the $56,000 to purchase a new truck.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, resident Bill Juve reported the Wolf Point Fire Department needed to respond to a call regarding an abandoned structure on Third Avenue South on Oct. 28. He feels that it’s a dangerous place for firefighters to respond. He said there are other places that are similar, and he wondered if taxes are being paid. County treasurer Betty Romo said that the taxes are delinquent for a year at most.

Commissioners approved the purchase of 15 new tasers for the sheriff’s office. Cost is $9,544 annually for five years.

Also approved was the purchase of body cams for three new deputies for the total cost of $13,103.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2024 Expedition for the sheriff’s office. Cost is $54,000.

Amber Fox was approved as the new water tester for Brockton. The hiring of Rhea Smoker was ap-Senior proved for the detention center.
