The Bainville Bulldogs lost a tough five-set match against Savage in the opening round of the Eastern C divisional volleyball tournament in Sidney on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Savage came away with a 24-26, 25-27, 25-17, 25-22, 16-14, victory.

Behind by a 12-11 margin in the opening set, the Bulldogs moved ahead on a pair of kills by Elsie Wilson and a kill by Chandi Johnson. After Savage gained an 18-16 lead on kills by KD Lyons, Bainville’s Hailey Berwick scored kills for a 20-18 advantage. A block by Addison Hansen put the margin at 21-18.

The Warriors pulled to a 22-22 deadlock, but another kill by Berwick put the margin at 24-22. After Mylee Reuter led Savage to a 24-24 tie, Bainville tallied the last two points on kills by Elsie Wilson.

An ace by Cambry Conradsen put Savage ahead 20-14 in the second set, but kills by Johnson and Berwick and a block by Hansen cut the gap to 22-19. Two kills by Berwick and an ace by Lila Butikofer pulled Bainville even at 22-22.

Trailing by a 25-24 margin, the Bulldogs accounted for the final three points of the second set on two kills by Wilson and a block by Johnson.

After the serving of Wilson led the Bulldogs to a 6-0 advantage in the third set, the Warriors battled back to 1514. Aces by Reuter put Savage ahead 23-17. A block by Lyons ended the third set.

Berwick scored consecutive kills in the fourth set to keep the Bulldogs close at 16-15 before Savage gained a 20-16 advantage. Two kills by Wilson closed the gap to 20-18, but a block by Lyons helped Savage earn a 23-18 advantage.

A kill by Johnson and block by Butikofer helped the Bulldogs fight back to 24-22 before the Warriors won the set by a 25-22 final.

The Bulldogs opened the fifth set well as kills by Berwick and Wilson led the way to a 5-0 lead. Spikes by Miah Pippenger and Wilson put the score at 12-4, but Savage struck for the next four points. An ace by Reuter and block by Lyons closed the gap to 13-10.

The score was deadlocked at 13-13 before Savage scored three of the last four points including two on kills by Lyons.
