Lustre Girls Knock Off Plevna Squad

A strong third quarter highlighted action as Lustre’s girls’ basketball team downed Plevna, 53-45, on Friday, Dec. 6.

Ahead by a 27-19 half-time margin, the Lions accounted for the first 10 points of the third quarter. Hannah Brown hit a three-pointer to get Lustre off to a strong start in the half. Two baskets by Lauryn Holzrichter, a drive by Lauren Fast and a 15-footer by Sidney Klatt put the Lions up 38-19.

Lustre held a 42-27 lead after three quarters of play. Hoops by Holzrichter and Fast put the score at 46-27 to open the fourth quarter.

Plevna came as close as 50--43 with 2:45 remaining, but a free throw by Jaden Gibson and a hoop by Kencia Brown put the game away.

Top scorers for the Lions were K. Brown with 18, Holzrichter with 14 and Fast with 10.

Also scoring were H. Brown with four, Klatt with four, Abby Olfert with two and Gibson with one.

A pull-up jumper by K. Brown ended the first quarter with Lustre holding an 11-8 lead.

Eight straight points by Holzrichter, including a basket off a nice pass from Klatt, provided a 19-8 lead for the Lions to open the second period.
