Brockton Girls Stop Bearcubs
Brockton’s full-court defensive pressure dictated action as the Warriors stopped Frazer, 82-23, on Friday, Dec. 13.
The Warriors accounted for 20 of the game’s first 22 points en route to the victory.
Brockton Coach Shawn DeMarrias said he felt joy while watching the effort.
“This is a long time coming for us,” DeMarrias said after the victory. “The girls played hard. Defense leads to offense.”
Two drives by Tamryn Bauer and a steal and layup by Marlene Fish gave the Warriors a quick 6-0 lead.
After Frazer’s Elli Mail scored at the 5:16 mark, the Warriors increased their lead to 14-2 on two hoops by Fish, a steal and drive by Bauer and a layup by Ava LoneBear after another steal by Bauer.
Hoops by Bauer, Quintana Young and Fish put Brockton ahead 20-2.
Free throws by Bauer and a three-pointer by LoneBear increased the gap to 27-4. The Warriors kept rolling with baskets by Young and Raykira Track for a 35-4 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
The Bearcubs got off to a good start in the second period as Audrey Smoker scored, but Brockton struck for the next nine points including a three-pointer by LoneBear.
Consecutive baskets by Young produced a 54-8 lead. Frazer pulled to 56-11 at the half on a basket by Smoker and a free throw by Isabelle Fourstar.
Brockton’s Bauer scored the last five points of the third quarter for a 74-21 margin.
Top scorers for the Warriors were Bauer with 27, Young with 21 and Fish with 18. Rounding out the scoring were LoneBear with nine, Track with five and Taylor Cummins with two.
Scoring for the Bearcubs were Baily Beston with eight, Mail with six, Smoker with six and Fourstar with three points.
