Commissioners Approve Bid For Gravel
The Roosevelt County commissioners received two bids for 26,000 tons of three-quarter inch minus gravel during a meeting for their bid opening on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The bid from Gratech Company of Berthold, N.D., was for $6.10 a ton for a total bid of $158,600.
Bishop submitted a bid of $5.50 a ton for a total of $158,000.
Commissioners pointed out that a difference was that the county would need to make royalty payments with the Bishop bid. That would be an estimated additional $58,000 cost.
The material from Gratech Company would come from a pit about 15 miles north of Wolf Point. The pit is owned by John Toavs.
Commissioner Gary Macdonald made the motion to accept Gratech’s bid. Commissioner Gordon Oelkers seconded the motion.
The motion passed by a 2-0 margin. Commissioner Robert Toavs didn’t vote because of a possible conflict of interest since John Toavs is his great-uncle.
Completion date is set for April 29, 2025, but commissioners said they know the gravel is already available at the pit.
