Poplar Boys Earn Victory

 

Poplar’s boys gained control in the fourth quarter to down Huntley Project, 64-57, at the basketball tournament in Lockwood on Friday, Dec. 13.

The Indians trailed by a 4541 margin entering the final period, but Poplar opened the quarter with an inside basket by Walker Burshia and a three-point play by Chasen Pribbernow. After a three-pointer put the Red Devils up by a 48-46 margin, Poplar ran off the next 11 points on two shots by Burshia, two jumpers by Kaniel Ricker and a three-pointer by Wilder Bearcub.

Poplar’s Blake Lambert connected on a three-pointer for a 60-51 advantage with three minutes to play. Huntley Project pulled to 60-54 by hitting a three-pointer with 58 seconds left, but a drive by Ricker and another basket by Burshia put the contest away.

The Indians trailed 19-15 at the end of the first quarter and 31-26 at intermission.

Poplar grabbed a 34-33 lead on a three-pointer by Lambert and a free throw by Burshia. With Huntley ahead 38-36, the Indians took a 3938 advantage on free throws by Lambert and Ricker.
