A strong finish to the first half propelled Culbertson to a 67-35 home boys’ basketball victory over the Richey/ Lambert Fusion on Friday, Dec. 20.

The Cowboys held a 20-13 lead at the end of the opening quarter as the scoring of Brooks Solem, Mark Kirkaldie, Plenny Williams and Ian Snyder were highlights.

Richey/Lambert stayed close at 22-18 on a free throw by Curtis Mullin with 5:08 left in the half, but the Cowboys then took control. Culbertson ran off the last 12 points of the half for a 34-18 advantage. A basket by Solem and a 14-footer by Williams started the streak. After Dawson Bergum went coast to coast for a hoop, Kirkaldie hit a turnaround shot for a 30-18 lead.

A layup by Bergum, after a steal by Williams, and a short jumper at the buzzer by Kirkaldie ended the half at 34-18.

The Cowboys kept rolling in the third quarter with the first seven points on a pair of free tosses by Williams, a three-pointer by Solem and a pull-up jumper by Bergum for a 41-18 lead.

After the Fusion battled back to 44-29, Bergum accounted for five straight points and Williams added a basket. The Cowboys ended the third quarter with a free throw by Snyder and a 14-footer by Gavin Deen for a 54-31 margin.

Leading the Cowboys with 13 points each were Williams, Solem and Kirkaldie.

Also scoring were Deen with eight, Snyder with six and Kaden Featherston with three.
