Froid/Lake Boys Score Overtime Win Over Thunder
Froid/Lake’s boys basketball team went into overtime and captured a victory over MonDak, 47-44, during District 2C action on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The game was deadlocked at 40-40 after regulation. The Red Hawks outscored Mon-Dak by a 7-4 margin in the extra period.
Froid/Lake gained an 11-7 lead in the first quarter and held a 19-13 half-time lead.
The Thunder struck for 22 points in the third quarter to grab a 35-26 advantage.
The Red Hawks, however, responded with 14 points in the fourth period to force overtime.
Rylan Young accounted for 26 of Froid/Lake’s points. Roberto Orozco also reached double figures with 13 points.
Also scoring were Carson Kelm with six and Joseph Robertson with two points.
Top scorers for MonDak were Dilan Wade with 16, Draygen Buechler with 15 and TC Swenson with 13 points.
MonDak’s girls got off to a strong start and defeated the Red Hawks by a 41-34 final.
The Thunder led 19-5 at the end of the first quarter and 26-11 at the half. The Red Hawks cut the gap to 31-23 in the third quarter.
Isabelle Nordwick scored 15 and Mara Salvevold added 10 points for the Red Hawks.
Leading MonDak were Evelynn Lowes, Abby Lowes and Rylie Gebhardt with 11 points each.
