Reports From The Legislature
In a few short days, we will be reporting to Helena to represent our constituents on a wide variety of concerns and issues. One topic that invariably comes up and was one of the first questions we were asked, “Can you do ANYTHING about changing the clocks?”. President Elect Trump recently proposed eliminating Daylight Saving Time so there is much chatter from all sides of the issue. Most all agree we need to stick to one or the other, which one becomes debatable.
Senate Bill 254, introduced in the 2021 session, authorized year-round mountain daylight time in Montana. Although the bill passed and was signed into law it had conditions tied to it.
Montana joins 19 other states that have passed bills to enact permanent DST and is waiting to see what happens at the federal level.
There are those that say permanent standard time is healthier and there are studies to prove this theory, but like most subjects in doing some research I found you can find facts/studies to back whichever permanent time you would prefer.
There are any number of reasons to choose permanent standard time vs daylight saving time. Most importantly, lets us choose one. It appears there may be a federal decision on this issue in the coming term so maybe this topic can finally be put to bed!
We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us to serve as your voice in Helena. It is a tremendous honor to represent Northeast Montana and to ensure that the values and priorities of our region are strongly represented at the state capitol.
As we prepare for the legislative session, we want to hear from you our constituents on this or any other subject of concern as your insight’s are invaluable to us as we begin this journey to represent you, the people.
