Influenza Active In Roosevelt County
Influenza has found it’s way into Roosevelt County, report the Roosevelt County Health Department. Influenza A has been diagnosed in a Roosevelt County resident who had no history of traveling outside of the county.
What is the Flu?
The flu is a contagious viral infection that affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat and sometimes the lungs.
Symptoms
Fever, body aches, chills, sweats, headache, cough, dizziness, flushed face, lack of energy, nausea and vomiting.
Treatment
Rest, fluids, over-thecounter medications and antiviral medications prescribed by a doctor.
Prevention
Getting a flu vaccine each year, practicing hand hygiene and using personal protective equipment.
Complications
Pneumonia, encephalitis, meningitis and seizures.
Risk Groups
People 65 years and older, young children, and people with certain health conditions, such as heart disease or asthma.
The flu is most contagious within the first three to four days after getting sick, but people can infect others up to seven days after becoming ill. Most symptoms go away in four to seven days, but a cough and tired feeling may last for weeks.
