Highlights through the year in Roosevelt County include the following: January

A meeting of law enforcement officials was conducted in Wolf Point regarding the police department being down to only two officers. “We had a mass exodus,” Mayor Chris Dschaak said. “We’re here begging and pleading for assistance from you.” Officials from the Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice and Roosevelt County Sheriffs Office said they would help as much as possible.

Roosevelt County commissioners said their goals for 2024 includes safety efforts in the county. Projects included 9-1-1 improvements and a communications tower.

Tracy Miranda and Lindsey Nygaard were sworn into office in the positions as clerk and recorder and chief deputy. Miranda was recommended by retiring clerk and recorder Cheryl Hansen, who worked for the county for 42 years and nine months.

Frank Smith announced that he will seek re-election to be state representative in House District 31.

Commissioners approved by a 2-1 margin to offer the county attorney position to Theresa Diekhans of Fergus County.

CJ Colon was selected the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office’s Deputy of the Year honor. Other award winners included Caleb Pendleton as Detention Officer of the Year and Catherine Dickey was Dispatcher of the Year.

Lance FourStar filed with the state as a candidate for House District 31.

District Judge Michael G. Moses denied former county attorney Frank Piocos’ appeal seeking relief.
