Froid/Lake Girls Battle In Poplar
Poplar fought off Froid/ Lake, 52-32, in non-conference girls’ basketball action in Poplar on Friday, Jan. 3.
The Red Hawks put up a good battle for most of the contest. A basket by Mara Salvevold and two free throws by Brooklyn Nordwick put Froid/Lake up 8-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The game was deadlocked at 14-14 during the second period before the Indians struck for seven straight points on a hoop by Saydee Archambault, a 17-footer by Bailey Dupree and a three-pointer by Cammie Martell.
Froid/Lake ended the half strong with six straight points on a basket by B. Nordwick, a steal and layup by Addison Elvsaas and a steal and drive by Keira Stentoft to pull to 21-20.
B. Nordwick opened the second half with a drive to put the Red Hawks ahead 2221. After a pair of free throws by Isabelle Nordwick produced a 24-23 lead for Froid/ Lake, Poplar went ahead with seven straight points on a three-pointer by Martell and baskets by Toni Brown and Dupree off a long pass from Mattie Ayers.
The scoring of Salvevold kept the Red Hawks close at 32-29 late in the quarter, but Dupree fired in a three-pointer increased the gap to 35-29 at the end of the period.
Poplar controlled the final period by a 17-3 margin. Ahead by a 38-30 score, the Indians ran off 14 straight points with the scoring of Dupree and Martell leading the way.
