Wolves Lose Contest Against Scotties

Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad played one of its best halves of the season, but Glasgow controlled the second half for a 49-37 win on Friday, Jan. 3.

A three-pointer by Sean Hamilton along with the scoring of Roper Flaten and Jett Azure got the Wolves off to a good start in front of their hometown fans.

After a free throw by Glasgow’s Cade Hudyma cut the gap to 7-5, Hamilton hit another three-pointer for a 10-5 advantage. The Scotties closed the margin to 10-8 at the end of the period.

A basket off a rebound by Cade Hudyma tied the game early in the second quarter, but a drive by Richard Campbell and two free throws by Zandon Calder put Wolf Point back ahead. After a blocked shot by Calder, Hamilton hit a three-pointer for a 17-10 lead with 4:37 remaining in the half.

A coast-to-coast drive three-pointer by Nick Solorzano, for a 19-19 deadlock.

The Wolves opened the third quarter with a three-pointer by Campbell for a 22-19 advantage. Glasgow outscored Wolf Point by a 19-0 margin the rest of the quarter for a 38-22 lead. The inside game featuring 6-4 Grady Nielsen and 6-7 Cade Hudyma led the way for the Scotties.

Wolf Point fought back with the opening seven points of the fourth period on a 14-footer by Hamilton, a basket off a rebound by Campbell and a three-pointer by Azure.

Baskets by Cole Holen and Rebel Mays pulled the Wolves as close as 43-33 with 3:16 left, but the Wolves couldn’t get closer until the final minute.

Hamilton led the Wolves with 15 points. Campbell and Azure scored five points each.

Having two points each were Mays, Flaten, Garfield, Calder and Holen.

Leading Glasgow’s attack were Cade Hudyma with 21 and Nielsen with 16 points.
