Bainville’s defensive play highlighted action as the Bulldogs stopped Culbertson, 51-13, in District 2C girls’ basketball on Friday, Jan. 17.

The visiting Bulldogs accounted for the contest’s first 14 points. Four points, including a three-pointer, by Hailey Berwick and a basket off a rebound by Tally Berwick produced a quick 6-0 lead.

Two straight baskets by Elsie Wilson after steals increased the gap to 10-0. After two free throws by Wilson, a layup by Wilson off a steal by H. Berwick put the margin at 14-0.

The Cowgirls got on the scoreboard when Payton Labatte scored on an assist from Emma Berwick with 2:15 left in the quarter. Labatte then hit a free throw to close the margin to 14-3.

Bainville tallied the last six points of the quarter on four free throws by T. Berwick and a hoop by H. Berwick off an assist from Wilson for a 20-3 advantage.

The Bulldogs outscored Culbertson by a 14-0 margin in the second period to put the lead to 34-3. H. Berwick had six points in the period.

The Cowgirls struck for six of the first eight points of the third quarter on five points by Ayden Ator and a free throw by Ivy Colvin. Bainville went on to hold a 46-9 lead at the end of the period. Lila Butikofer scored the last four points of the quarter.

Top scorers for Bainville were H. Berwick with 16, Wilson with 13 and T. Berwick with 10 points.

Also scoring were Miah Pippenger with four, Butikofer with four, Addison Hansen with two and Chandi Johnson with two.

Ator scored seven for the Cowgirls. Also scoring were Labatte with three, E. Berwick with two and Colvin with one point.
