Lustre Drops League Games Against Scobey

 

In a battle of District 3C heavyweights, Scobey edged Lustre, 40-37, in boys’ basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The visiting Spartans led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Lions battled back for a 20-20 deadlock at the half.

Scobey entered the fourth quarter with a 29-25 lead and still was ahead 34-31 going into the final minutes.

A free throw by Brecken Maher put the Spartans ahead 35-31 with 1:59 remaining.

Lustre answered with a three-pointer by Cam Reddig with 1:42 remaining. A 14-footer by Scobey’s Reese Tande produced a 37-34 margin.

After Kolten Machart hit two free throws, Clay Reddig fired in a three-pointer from way out to pull the Lions to 39-37.

A free throw by Tande put the margin at 40-37 with 11 seconds left. Lustre’s final three-point attempt to potentially tie the game went off the rim at the buzzer.

Lustre’s top scorers were Cam Reddig with 10 and Johnslee Pierre with nine points.

Also scoring were Prestyn Klatt with eight, Byron Ewing with six and Clay Reddig with four.

Leading Scobey were Tande with 10 and Machart with nine points.

In the girls’ game, Scobey won by a 53-26 final.

The Spartans jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 29-11 halftime advantage.

Scoring for Lustre were Kencia Brown with nine, Lauryn Holzrichter with eight, Lauren Fast with five and Sidney Klatt with four.

Leading Scobey were Kennadi Cromwell with 12, Kayla Carney with 11 and Kaytie Aanstad with 10 points.
