Wolf Point High School students are becoming a force in the speech and drama ranks. The Wolves have come away with six drama sweeps and one speech sweeps titles during this season.

Coach Jacob Boysun credits the success to having more students participate in the program and featuring students with experience in competitions.

Senior captains Chase Adams and Ryver Summers have been key contributors during the last four years. Adams has earned titles at four meets in humorous solo this campaign. Summers has won awards in informative.

“We love doing what we do,” Adams said of the program’s strengths.

Summers added, “We put in effort and practice a lot.”

They have enjoyed the program’s turnaround after having just five students involved when they were freshmen. Summers was the only girl on that squad.

“I never thought we would take first at a meet ever,” Summers said. “The energy wasn’t there.”

The two seniors appreciate what Boysun has done for the program. The teams consists of 12 students this season including eighth graders for the first time.

Alena Bradshaw, one of the eighth graders, said she appreciates the guidance she received from the coaches and older teammates. She recently placed second in humorous oral interpretation at a meet in Culbertson.

Adams said it’s impressive that eighth-graders are already placed at meet and are gaining experience. That makes the program’s future look bright. The seniors also appreciate the support they receive from the rest of the student body. “It makes us feel confident in our team when we leave,” Adams said.

The addition of Jaki Harada to the coaching staff has also been a benefit to the program. “She’s another voice of reason,” Adams explained.

Summers said a highlight for her was Wolf Point hosting its first meet in 10 years this past December.

“I was proud that the school could do it,” she said.

Coach Boysun said the students have plenty to be pleased of this season’s accomplishments. Cole Boysun and Elli Ryan have earned first place at every meet this season. Mimes Nora Hansen and Maya Deserly have captured many honors.

This weekend, the Wolves head to the divisional meet in Froid. The top six in each event qualify for the state meet to be held in Huntley Project.

“I would like to take second at divisional, right under Huntley,” Coach Boysun said.
