Cannabis Sales Reach New Heights in County

Estimated cannabis sales, estimated by the Montana Department of Revenue, continue to increase in each recent month for Roosevelt County.

A high of $530,040 was reached in Roosevelt County during August, but total sales decreased to $515,811 during the month of September. The last three months of 2024 showed steady increases in the county.

Estimated sales were $540,890 for October, $565,525 in November and $596,144 in December. The figure for December translates to $19,230 daily.

For the state of Montana, total sales were $27,728,562 in October, $26,708,916 in November and $26,693,032 in December.

Richland County had total sales of $864,366 during December. Richland had total sales of $945,651 in November and $962,909 during October.

Dawson County had sales of $633,559 during December.

Counties with the top sales during December were $4,573,267 in Yellowstone, $3,829,529 in Gallatin, $3,254,888 in Missoula and $2,687,590 in Flathead, In 2022, Roosevelt County residents approved to have a 3 percent tax on the retail value of all medical marijuana and a 3 percent tax on the retail value of all non-medical marijuana sold within the county.

The county received $33,667.84 for the second quarter from the local option tax. Of those funds, 50 percent go to the sheriff’s budget for law enforcement. The other 50 percent is divided between the county’s cities and towns based on population.
