Red Hawks Lose In Overtime
Froid/Lake’s girls’ basketball squad fought until the end but lost at Plentywood by a 37-34 final on Friday, Jan. 24.
The Red Hawks trailed by a 25-21 margin entering the third quarter, but the game was deadlocked at 27-27 heading into the final three minutes.
A basket off a rebound by Autumn McCabe put Plentywood ahead 30-27 with 1:21 left.
Froid/Lake pulled even when Addison Elvsaas fired in a three-pointer with 1:07 remaining.
The Wildcats missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer.
After Froid/Lake took the lead in overtime on free throws by Isabelle Nordwick, McCabe hit a three-pointer to put the Wildcats ahead.
A drive by I. Nordwick put the Red Hawks up 34-32 with 1:30 left, but a 14-footer by Jaimison Soderquist pulled Plentywood into the lead.
Two free throws by Mallory Tommerup produced a 37-34 margin with 31 seconds left. The Red Hawks missed three three-point attempts in the final 20 seconds.
Top scorers for the Red Hawks were I. Nordwick with 11 and Mara Salvevold with 10 points.
Also scoring were Brooklyn Nordwick with four, Joelle Davidson with four, Elvsaas with three and Avery Johnson with two.
Leading the Wildcats were Tommerup with 12 and Mc-Cabe with nine points.
In the boys’ game, league-leading Plentywood won by a 70-18 margin.
Plentywood led 20-6 at the end of the first quarter and 42-13 at the half. The Wildcats outscored Froid/Lake by a 20-1 margin in the third quarter.
Rylan Young scored 10 points for the Red Hawks. Also scoring were Carson Kelm with three, Roberto Orozco with three and Joseph Robertson with two.
Leading Plentywood’s attack were Henry Kukowski with 14, Chance Klein with 11 and Ayden Kaul with 10 points.
