Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team enjoyed a promising start, but Circle took control in the second half to score a 55-38 non-conference victory in Wolf Point on Thursday, Jan. 23.

The Wolves got out of the gate with the opening nine points with a three-pointer by Sean Hamilton highlighting action. Also scoring were Jett Azure with a drive, Zandon Calder with an inside shot and Richard Campbell and Roper Flaten hitting free throws.

Circle’s first points came on a three-pointer by Xavier Nasner with 3:18 left in the quarter. After a free throw by Duke Williamson, Kashus Ereaux canned a three-pointer to pull the Wildcats to 9-7 with 2;25 left in the period. Nasner drove in for a hoop for a 9-9 deadlock at the 1:59 mark.

The Wolves regained the lead on a basket off a nice pass from Campbell, but a pair of free throws by Tripp Wahl tied the game at 11-11 to end the quarter.

After a basket off a rebound by Campbell kept the Wolves close at 16-14 early in the second period, the Wildcats tallied on a 16-footer by Ereaux and a three-pointer by Conner Guldborg to produce a 21-14 margin.

Wolf Point battled back to 21-19 on a three-pointer by Flaten and two free tosses by Hamilton. Circle held a 27-23 lead at intermission.

The inside play of 6-5 Calder kept Wolf Point within striking range during the third quarter, but six straight points by the Wildcats, including four by Williamson increased the gap to 39-29. Hamilton nailed a three-pointer before Circle tallied the last eight points of the quarter including six points by Nasner for a 47-32 advantage.

Circle, playing the game without standout Owen Beery due to injury, outscored the Wolves by an 8-6 margin in the fourth quarter.

Leading Circle’s attack were Williamson with 16, Nasner with 14, Guldborg with 10 and Ereaux with 10 points.
