Brockton Girls Upset Plentywood

Brockton surprised Plentywood, 44-43, in overtime during District 2C girls’ basketball action in Brockton on Friday, Jan. 31.

The game was even at 3838 after three quarters of play.

Free throws by Jaimison Soderquist and Mallory Tommerup put Plentywood up 38-35 in the final minute, but Brockton’s Tamryn Bauer hit three free throws to tie the game with eight seconds remaining. The Wildcats missed on a shot attempt at the buzzer.

The Warriors struck first in overtime when Marlene Fish scored off a rebound. After Plentywood took a lead, free throws by Bauer gave Brockton a 42-41 advantage with 1:28 remaining.

Still ahead by that one-point margin, Brockton’s Quintana Young took a charge with 1.4 seconds left. After the close call, Plentywood’s coach was given a technical foul. Bauer made both free throws for a 44-41 lead.

The Wildcats almost stayed alive when Tommerup stole the inbounds pass and hit a long shot at the buzzer. It was ruled, however, that she was just inside the threepoint line.

Bauer led the Warriors with 12 points while Ava Lone Bear added 12 points.

Also scoring were Young with four and Fish with four.

Tommerup accounted for 27 of Plentywood’s points.

In the boys’ game, conference leader Plentywood scored a 74-55 victory.

Down by a 15-14 margin at the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats tallied 22 points in the second period for a 3720 half-time lead.

Brockton’s top scorers were Josh Firemoon with 21 and Jarid Fasthorse Jr. with 11 points. Also scoring were Kameron Rattling Thunder with nine, Miles Boxer Jr. with eight, Ronnie Blackdog with three and Quannah First That Walks with three.

Leading Plentywood were Carson Solberg with 27 and Chance Klein with 18 points.
