County’s Unemployment Stands At 3.2 Percent

Gov. Greg Gianforte has announced the unemployment rate in December marked a year of historically low unemployment, with a record 42 consecutive months of unemployment at or below 3.4 percent.

“In Montana, our economy is strong, resilient, and full of good-paying jobs,” Gianforte said. “With our historic stretch of unemployment and with wage growth outpacing inflation in Montana over the past four years, our state continues to be a model for the nation.”

Montana’s unemployment rate fell to 3.1 percent in December, down from 3.2 percent in the previous month, and a full point lower than the national unemployment rate.

Roosevelt County has an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent, which puts the county in a tie with four other counties at 33rd place.

Valley County is 20th at 2.6 percent The counties with the lowest unemployment rates are Fallon at 1.6, Daniels at 1.8, Carter at 1.9, Powder River at 2.1, Treasure at 2.1 and Gallatin at 2.1.

Richland County is tied for seventh at 2.2 percent. Dawson County is tied for ninth at 2.3 percent.

Counties with the highest unemployment rates are Mineral at 6.5, Lincoln at 5.9, Sanders at 5.4, Wheatland at 5.1 and Phillips at 4.8.

Fort Peck ranks second for reservations with an employment rate of 4.1 percent. Flathead is first at 3.9 percent. Fort Belknap is seventh at 8.9 percent.
