Lady Wolves Come Back To Edge Glasgow, 63-62
Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team accomplished a great comeback and edged Glasgow, 63-62, in Glasgow on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Wolves trailed 29-26 at the half and closed the gap to 29-28 on a basket by Caitlyn Wilson to open the third quarter.
Glasgow’s full-court defense pressure then took control and the Scotties built a 17-point advantage.
The Wolves, however, responded with a strong run of their own to pull to 51-49 at the end of the third quarter. Leading the way on the comeback were a three-point play by Keeley Blount-Henderson, a three-pointer by Brenna Blount, the scoring of Karmyn Plain Feather and drives by Wilson.
Wolf Point trailed 5452 midway into the fourth quarter, but Glasgow increased the margin to 58-52 on two baskets by Mayzie Yoakam.
A drive by Wilson kept the Wolves close at 58-54 with 2:48 left. After a hoop by Blount-Henderson, Glasgow’s Gina Page scored with 2:08 remaining.
Blount-Henderson then fired in a three-pointer to cut the margin to 60-59 with 1:52 left.
After Kashlyn Speak Thunder forced a turnover, another basket by Wilson put the Wolves up 61-60 with 32 seconds remaining. The Scotties regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Tanae Baker, but the Wolves went ahead to stay on a drive by Blount-Henderson with eight seconds remaining.
Yoakam hit a three-pointer from way out, but the shot came after the buzzer.
Top scorers for the Wolves were Blount-Henderson with 18 and Wilson with 12. Adding nine points each were Blount, Plain Feather and MaKenzie Jackson. Ameliya Doney had six points.
Leading the Scotties were Yoakam with 28, Baker with 14 and Paityn Britzman with nine points.
The Wolves will travel to Malta on Friday, Feb. 7, and host Harlem on Saturday, Feb. 8.
