Poplar Girls Earn Win Over Harlem
Poplar’s girls’ basketball team used a good second quarter to knock off Harlem, 58-47, in home conference action on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The game was deadlocked at 16-16 after the first quarter. Poplar trailed 20-19 until Braelyn Nordwick scored off a pass from Cammie Martell midway into the second quarter.
Nordwick, a junior, then connected on a three-pointer for a 24-20 lead.
Martell, a junior, scored the next five points on a three-pointer and a drive. A free throw by Nordwick put the Indians up 30-20 at the half.
Poplar outscored the Wildcats, 15-14, in the third quarter for a 45-34 lead.
In the boys’ game, Poplar lost by a 71-59 final.
Harlem held a 34-27 advantage at the half and a 53-40 lead at the end of the third quarter.
A drive by Poplar’s Wilder Bearcub and a three-pointer by Dane Moran got the Indians as close as 69-56 with 1:16 remaining.
