Poplar Boys Defeat Fairview In Overtime
Poplar’s boys’ basketball squad posted its first league of the season when the Indians downed Fairview, 50-46, in Poplar on Saturday, Feb. 8.
After regulation ended at 41-41, the Indians struck quickly in overtime on a three-point play by Wilder Bearcub.
After a 15-footer by Tyler Loan cut the margin to 44-43, the Indians responded with a three-pointer by Dane Moran with under two minutes left.
A pair of free throws by Bearcub gave Poplar a 49-43 lead with 47 seconds remaining. The Indians added a free throw by Kaniel Ricker with 17 seconds left.
Fairview’s Loan connected on a three-pointer with four seconds remaining for the 5046 final.
Poplar’s top scorers were Ricker with 20 and Walker Burshia with 15 points.
Leading Fairview were Loan with 18 and Troy Karst with 12 points.
Poplar gained a 13-9 lead in the first quarter and held a 26-20 half-time advantage. Poplar held a 33-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the girls’ game, Fairview earned a 48-43 victory.
Poplar gained a 29-24 halftime advantage, but Fairview struck for 16 points in the third quarter to move ahead 40-33 lead.
