Wolf Point Students Learn About Various Careers From Speakers

Wolf Point High School and Junior High students got exposed to a wide variety of opportunities during Classroom Career Day on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Among those providing presentations were Nicole Paulson and Kelsie Nefzger, nurses at Northeast Montana Health Services.
Paulson explained to students that she originally wanted to go into the dental field, but then found out “I didn’t like teeth.” Instead, she has enjoyed a long, successful career as a nurse.
“It’s OK to change your mind. It’s easier to do it when you’re younger that older,” Paulson said.
When asked about high school students working as certified nursing assistants, Paulson explained that they usually work on Sundays and also during the summer.
“I really prefer them not to give up their high school events,” she said. “You never get those years back. Paychecks will come later.”
As far as the mental aspect of being a nurse, they said there are some things that you wish you would never see. Paulson said that it’s important to talk with others about your emotions.
Artist Chelysa Owens-Cyr discussed various jobs that art can take a person.
She described her journey into art, which led to corporate art for the corporations of Nike and Pendleton including providing shoe designs for Nike. Her creations include bead work, rawhide art and graphic design.
Bureau of Indian Affairs drug agent Raul Figueroa discussed law enforcement fields with students. He said growing in a family with a law enforcement background was a benefit for him.
“I don’t do it for the glory,” Figueroa said. “I do it for the community.”
He shared that last year, he was sent to Florida and North Carolina to protect FEMA workers.
“It was a good experience. I enjoyed it,” he said.
Other presenters included Kelsey McCabe and Logan West of Nemont, Jack Sprague and Marty Reum of Fort Peck Community College, IHS pharmacist Brianne Moran, Sgt.
