Behind by a 60-58 margin against Harlem with only 1.4 seconds left in overtime, Wolf Point Coach Cole Hawks knew where the ball had to go when he talked with the players during a time-out.

Richard Campbell, a junior, had already hit five threepoint shots in the game including two in the fourth quarter. Hanks wanted to go for the conference win.

“I didn’t think we had enough time for anything else,” Hanks said.

Campbell came through by hitting the winning three-pointer at the buzzer for a 61-60 victory. Players and fans, including one excited mother, stormed the court and jumped on the night’s hero.

“I thought it looked good. He had a good look,” Hanks said of his thoughts when Campbell took the shot. “For the most part, he’s pretty consistent but he doesn’t shoot a lot of them. He’s gaining confidence.”

The shot ended a strong second half for the Wolves after trailing 31-23 at intermission.

“I’m proud of the boys. They came together and got a big win,” Hanks said.

Wolf Point’s top scorers were Zandon Calder with 22 and Campbell with 21 points. Also scoring were Roper Flaten with 12 and Sean Hamilton with seven points.

Leading Harlem were Issac Kelly with 17, Matthew Billmayer with 16 and Cody Mc-Cabe with 11 points.

The Wolves trailed 3730 until striking for seven straight points on two inside shots by Calder and a three-pointer by Campbell. Down 41-40 late in the third period, the Wolves grabbed a 45-41 lead on a three-pointer by Campbell and a a 12-footer by Flaten to end the quarter. Consecutive three-pointers by Campbell put the Wolves ahead 56-49 with 4:40 remaining, but the Wildcats kept battling and pulled even at 56-56 on a three-pointer by Kelly with 20 seconds left in regulation.

Campbell sank a free throw to tie the game at 58-58 with 1:04 remaining in overtime, but Kelly hit a 15-footer to put Harlem ahead 60-58 with 38 seconds remaining.
