Froid/Lake Boys Defeat Fusion
Froid/Lake’s boys’ basketball squad handed Richey/ Lambert a 46-36 loss during conference action in Lambert on Friday, Feb. 14.
The Red Hawks held a 33-30 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Carson Kelm hit a three-pointer to increase the margin to 36-30 with 5:31 left to play.
After a basket by Quad Marshall for the Fusion, Froid/ Lake struck for the next seven points on a three-pointer by Rylan Young, a drive by Joseph Robertson and another hoop by Young.
Roberto Orozco fired in a three-pointer to put the Red Hawks up 46-32 en route to the victory.
Leading Froid/Lake’s attack were Young with 18 and Kelm with 13 points. Also scoring were Robertson with six, Cody Olson with four, Orozco with three and Jacob Nordlund with two points.
Top scorers for the Fusion were Curtis Mullin with 12 and Cade Verschoot with nine points.
Froid/Lake’s girls suffered a tough 54-51 defeat against the Fusion.
The game was even at 33-33 at half-time. The Fusion held a 42-39 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
A drive by Brooklyn Nordwick closed the margin to 4443 with 4:42 remaining. A pair of baskets by Mara Salvevold gave the Red Hawks a 49-46 lead.
After the Fusion tied the game on a basket by Brooke Lien and a free throw by Brynne Hill, a drive by Keira Rains put Richey/Lambert ahead 51-49 with 58 seconds left.
A free throw by B. Nordwick closed the margin to 51-50, but the Fusion moved ahead 52-50 on a free toss by Tayen Carda with 12 seconds remaining. After Isabelle Nordwick hit a free throw with 2.4 seconds left, Carda made two free throws for the 54-51 final.
Salvevold finished with 24 points for the Red Hawks. B. Nordwick reached double figures with 13 points.
Also scoring were I. Nordwick with six, Joelle Davidson with four, Jordyn Breuer with two and Addison Elvsaas with two.
Leading the Fusion were Rains with 17 and Hill with 13 points.
