Bainville Falls Short Against MonDak


Despite coming back from a 16-point deficit at one point, Bainville’s boys’ basketball team fell short against Mon-Dak, 56-47, in loser-out play at the District 2C tournament on Saturday morning.
The Thunder, who enjoyed excellent shooting from three-point range, led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and by a 31-15 margin midway into the second quarter.
Bainville battled back with the last 13 points of the half to pull to 31-28. Four points each by Parker Berwick and Rowan Wilson highlighted the comeback.
Baskets by Reed Winn and Wilson put the Bulldogs ahead 32-31 early in the third quarter.
MonDak, however, answered with a pair of three-pointers by Draygen Buechler. Another three-pointer by Buechler and a drive by Dillan Wade produced a 42-36 advantage for the Thunder.
Bainville’s Kaiden Holmes connected on a 12-footer to close the margin to 42-38 at the end of the third quarter.
Three points by Berwick and a basket off a rebound by Holmes got the Bulldogs as close as 44-43 with 5:02 remaining.
MonDak’s Dilan Wade struck for the game’s next six points to put the Thunder up 51-43 with 3:31 remaining. Berwick and Isaiah Bjorge pulled the Bulldogs to 51-47, but MonDak struck for the last five points of the game.
Berwick led the Bulldogs with 24 points while Wilson with 10 points. Also scoring were Holmes with five, Winn with four and Bjorge with four.
Bjorge and Berwick each grabbed 11 rebounds.
MonDak’s Wade accounted for 30 points and 15 rebounds. Buechler added 14 points.
The Thunder connected for 12 three-point shots in the game including four each by Wade and Buechler. Bainville was one for 21 three-point tries.
