Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad couldn’t overcome a rough third quarter and fell against Fairview, 61-54, in the first round of the District 2B tournament in Glasgow on Wednesday.

A steal and drive by Roper Flaten pulled the Wolves to 22-21 late in the second period, but the Warriors struck for the last five points of the half on a three-pointer by Tyler Loan and a basket by Keegan Skogas off a steal by Wyatt McPherson.

The Warriors then accounted for the first seven points of the third quarter to stretch their lead to 34-21. Loan hit three three-pointers later in the half to help Fairview gain a 45-22 advantage.

Wolf Point struck back on five points by Sean Hamilton and a dunk by Zandon Calder. A three-pointer by Calder at the buzzer closed the gap to 49-35 at the end of the third quarter.

The Wolves trailed by 13 points in the fourth quarter after Calder scored off a rebound with 4:01 left. A pair of free throws by Rebel Mays closed the margin to 54-45.

Four straight points by Campbell and another three-pointer by Calder kept the Wolves alive at 57-52. Mays then connected on two free throws to pull Wolf Point to 57-54 with still 49 seconds to play.

Fairview, however, scored the final four points on two free throws by Loan and a steal and drive by Loan.
