Bainville Loses In Semi-final Round

 

The Bainville Bulldogs got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover in their 62-44 semi-final round loss against North Country on Thursday, March 6.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 12-0 advantage until Bainville’s Tally Berwick hit a short jumper with 4:26 left in the first quarter.

Bainville’s Miah Pippenger fired in a three-pointer and Elsie Wilson drove in for a hoop to pull the Bulldogs to 16-9 late in the period. After Lila Butikofer connected on a 12-footer, North Country’s CharLee McColly hit a turnaround shot for a 2011 margin at the end of the period.

The Bulldogs put together a good run at the start of the second quarter as a rebound and drive by Wilson, a three-pointer by Pippenger and another drive by Wilson cut the margin to 21-18 with 5:23 left in the half.

The Mavericks, however, struck for 11 of the game’s next 12 points. Shelbi LaBrie scored six of those points. North Country led 35-22 at the half.

A pair of three-pointers by Gracie Wasson helped North Country increase its lead to 43-24 midway into the third quarter.

Bainville scored on three-pointers by Hailey Berwick and Pippenger later in the period but trailed 51-32 at the end of the period.

A three-pointer by Wilson and a 12-footer by H. Berwick got the Bulldogs off to a good start in the fourth period. Two free throws by Addison Hansen and another basket by H. Berwick got the Bulldogs as close as 14 points with 5:07 to play, but the Mavericks held Bainville to three points the rest of the way.

Top scorers for Bainville were Wilson with 14 and Pippenger with 12. Also scoring were H. Berwick with nine, Hansen with four, Butikofer with three and T. Berwick with two.

Leading North Country were LaBrie with 19, CharLee McColly with 16 and Wasson with 14 points.
