Bearcubs Lose To Bainville At C Tournament
After a close first quarter, Bainville ran to a 65-25 opening- round victory over Frazer at the Eastern C divisional tournament in Sidney on Wednesday, March 5.
A fast-break basket by Maci Fourstar-Sibley put Frazer up 5-3 early. Bainville scored the next five points on a short jumper by Tally Berwick, two free throws by Lila Butikofer and a free throw by Hailey Berwick. The Bulldogs held a 16-12 lead at the end of the period. The Bulldogs then reeled off the first 11 points of the second quarter including eight points by H. Berwick, a 12-footer by Butikofer and a free throw by Addison Hansen.
H. Berwick accounted for six straight points later in the quarter to lead Bainville to a 33-20 half-time advantage.
The Bulldogs’ man-to-man defense held the Bearcubs scoreless in the third quarter as Bainville scored a 58-20 lead. Top scorers for Bainville in the quarter were T. Berwick with six, H. Berwick with five, Elsie Wilson with four and Miah Pippenger with four.
Leading the Bulldogs were H. Berwick with 22 and T. Berwick with 16 points. Rounding out the scoring were Butikofer with eight, Wilson with six, Hansen with six, Johnna Ryder with three, Pippenger with two and Jodi Albus with two.
Baily Beston finished with 11 points to lead the Bearcubs. Also scoring were Fourstar-Sibley with six, Isabelle Fourstar with three, Bri-Anna Beston with three and Audrey Smoker with two.
